Thumbs up to renting from DVD Showtime

After Love Film (nee DVDsonTap) saw fit to decrease their customer service level I hunted out a new rental company that didn`t rely on continuous credit/debit card authorities, but rather allowed the member to control the payments by way of a bank standing order (not a direct debit, note). I found DVD Showtime to be about the only ones who offered this.

I set the standing order up online at my bank, so that the money transferred the next day. Unfortunately, after a week I still hadn`t had anything, so I e-mailed them. Within 5 minutes I had a response, apologising, and upping my service level for a set period. The next day they sent out two titles (as opposed to the one I`d normally get at £9.99 per month, vs £14.99 for two at a time) and I got them next day. Worth noting that I sent the e-mail at 11.55p.m., by the way :)

Watched the films over the week and sent them back Monday. Two more discs were waiting when I got home today.

There is a 14 day trial (as a result, I will get a longer time to pay my next monthly fee). Okay, they aren`t exactly brimming with new titles, but they have a very good back catalogue - I had no problem filling up my queue with the recommended 60 titles. To date, however, I have received my top titles.

Very impressed so far, so a hearty thumbs up from my good self :)

never tried showtime but i`m currently on my second month with QFLICKS and they are terrible. I give them the benefit over xmas but now they are getting worse,on 3 dvds a week, and only getting 3 dvds a week. and never answering emails quickly.

The service provided by Qflicks was good to start with but is absolutlely appalling now. They do not check in dvds sent but sit on them for a day or 2. When checked in they wait a day or so before sending the next ones out. Dvds365 are exactly the same. Both take 3-4 days to respond to emails and blame the post. Will be cancelling with both of them.

Sadly, DVD Showtime have decided to call it a day, mainly for one of the founder`s personal reasons - a real shame, as they offered a really good, friendly service.

Does anyone know of any other organisations that allow you to pay by Direct Debit/standing order rather than setting up a continuous credit/debit card authority ?
