Is it just me that is sick of getting canadian dvd`s with french language plastered over them or a big logo on front saying french version incluse.Recently i`ve got pulp fiction worst packaging ever, the last castle and more with french covers`i don`t live in france i don`t speak the language so why should i be subjected to these discs.Does any retailer supply genuine US region 1 titles with english covers they all advertise them but when you recieve them they are french kind of false advertising.I was going to order blade 2 from play but thought it might be an alliance video version not the new line version, anybody know where i can get reg 1 disc from uk companies excluding play or enterprisesdvd.
I totally agree with your views and have since stopped buying Canadian releases, unless no ther alternative. Instead I`ve been getting USA releases from Movietyme. Good service so far and they tend to ship well before the official release date. Try them out on www.movietyme.com
This is from the FAQ on DVD Soon about french language
As of March 1st 2002, to comply with Canadian law, studios must release some of their DVDs with a French cover. To comply, they have released different products than those available in the United States.
The law states that for every movie that has been dubbed in French:
There must be a theatrical release of that movie
There must be a French sound track available on the DVD
There must be a French cover available either as a separate product, in a bilingual cover or in a reversible cover
As it stands, the types of covers that are available from major studios are:
2 distinct products, one with an English cover and one with a French cover. In this case, we mark the french cover version with a (v.f) suffix. All other methods have no (v.f) suffix as there is only one product.
Method 1: 1 product with a reversible bilingual cover (one side predominently French and one side predominently English, but both sides bilingual)
Method 2: 1 product with a non reversible bilingual cover (predominently English but bilingual)
Method 3: 1 product with a reversible cover (one side completely French and one side completely English expect for a small tag stating that the reverse cover is in French)
The major studios have adopted the following methods as of March 1st 2002:
Columbia, Warner, Seville, Fox and Disney use method 1
Universal use method 2
Paramount use method 3
Fox use option 4
I recommend Future Entertainment they offer free delevery and no customs charges.

RE: SICK OF CANADIAN RELEASES
I used to buy from videocave in new york, great prices and only $10 airmail for 8 titles which took around 10 days to arrive but the post office always hit me for around £25 each order in customs fees.I changed to dvd express again ordering 8 titles and paying $35 for fed ex delivery in 3 days but then again i got big customs bills.Play is good but i`ve heard bad reports about some other sites from friends and magazines it`s a tough decision, don`t like taking my business from play as they are pretty good if not slow in updating new releases, had to cancel speed 1,2 boxset from enterprisesdvd at £28 as play anounced a couple of days before hand the box at £18. Bought back to the future from cdwow delivered in 2 days was told by uk company there discs were copied does anyone know if this is true as the discs are damm good if they are.
I have bought loads of stuff from CD-WOW, both CD`s and DVD`s. I have never received anything that was not an original version and first class quality. Their sales support is also second to none. I don`t know which company gave you your info, but I find any such claim very hard to believe. Sounds like competitive envy to me. Their prices are very, very good!

This company has been around since laser disc and forced a few other companies out with back stabbing dealings and a friend who sold laser discs got a call from them claiming to be the bbfc.Lots of good companies out there cd wow deliverd bttf in over 2 days amazing service, takes longer for a local delivery thinking of def using them in future if i can get non canadian discs.
I share the same sentiment re: Canadian covers. If the film is packaged in an Amaray case, I prefer the reversible sleeve, like the Malena DVD that I got recently.
I`m not keen on having French and English on the same cover, there`s too much text and it doesn`t look very good. Either hold inventory for separate French and English versions, or do a reversible sleeve.
If it`s not bad enough having to defend myself against the Americans lack of common sense, now I`ve got to contend with Canadians holding on to the French language. I feel like kicking someone`s a**e...
CD wow will also send mainly canadian discs. I dont really mind the cover as im not too picky. The disc is in english and thats the main thing. I think dvd soon is the only canadian company that allows you to choose between normal discs and v.f s(version francais).
Its only a bit of writing after all and you are getting it pretty cheap. Its like if u order a r3 disc from hong kong, its bound to have chinese writing on it.
RE: SICK OF CANADIAN RELEASES
Reversible sleeves are a good option i`ve no problem with that as i`ve rush hour 2 and bridget jones both with these covers. Its only when you get a film like grease due from paramount which is cert to have french name plastered on it.Others are fatal attraction vanilla sky pulp fiction pretty in pink (bad fim anyway) some kind of wonderful indecent proposal. At least with some movies from other regions you`ve got a language or subtitle option.
Having read a number of similar threads on other forums it`s surprising that no one`s started an online petition.
Perhaps we should get the ball rolling? :-)
