Deleting files on Windows 10

Snaps (Elite) posted this on Monday, 10th February 2020, 13:07

Just clearing out some rubbish on Windows 10 ie: pics downloaded just to post on social media.
As small as just 6kb but none going as far as 100KB and even when deleting individually I'm getting 'Discovering items' and a graph style progress bar while it chews on it for a minute or two before deleting.
Not due to a full recycle bin as I've emptied it any ideas why or how to avoid it.

Interesting it's set up to de frag weekly but says last time was 15 days ago.
Just done it anyway so I'll see if that alters anything.

A quick Google mentioned changing the viewing options for a folder you're deleting from, from thumbnails to icons.

Also try deleting from a command prompt with the 'del' command, bypassing the recycle bin.

The two words "Discovering Items" is so innocuous, but in Google, it's only Windows deleting and copying problems that come up. Not even any porn...

Something is probably locking the files, sometimes it's Windows own preview generation.

You could go command line if you really wanted to.

Shouldn't be anything to do with defrag.
Are you doong the deletes as a result of a search? That would do it cos it's constantly re-searching.
People still defrag? :-)
Can't imagine not having an SSD now.
