Apple

So a lot of people go on about apple overpriced stuff etc, I am in Hong Kong now back to Saigon tomorrow, 3rd day now and when i arrived back at my hotel yesterday i discovered my 2014 MacBook airs trackpad had given up the ghost, did the usual for me off and on, went online to apple support who tried to help, eventually walked to the apple store around 21:15 but no one could help me that late and told me to do a walk in this morning from 10. Came back and waited around half hour as they had no appointments, eventually guy looked at it and told me I had a swollen battery!! (ooh matron was my 1st thought) as its an old one not sure if we have any in stock and maybe thursday or friday before we can return to you, explained i was off to Vietnam tomorrow and they don't have apple support there, he tells me to wait and goes in the back.

10 minutes later he comes back says if they have to replace the battery and trackpad it would be around £140 if just the battery £100 and they would have it ready tonight, its now 15:41 i got a call around 12:30 saying it was ready and was just the battery so £100 only, while in the shop i had a look at the prices and around £350 cheaper than in Uk im thinking of upgrading while here :)

The moral of the story, its not just build quality (how many of you have a 2014 pc working like you bought it yesterday? Im guessing none) and the software which is miles ahead of windows but most important is the after service which is just fantastic :) and thats why i now swear by apple.

Yes I am still using a Windows laptop from back then.
I actually recently replaced a battery in it because it was no longer holding its charge too well.
It hadn't swollen and started to affect the touchpad.
I just removed it myself and replaced it.
It cost £25.

Ste

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Apple does make nice products and it does have pretty good after sales support, which it can afford to do because of the price of the products. It's not perfect, and sometimes it has to be publicly shamed into recalls and cheap fixes...

...but at least it can be!

I also have a Windows laptop that's older than 2014, which is still going even though I don't use it hardly ever any more. It's very cheap to replace the battery on. But it's not remotely as nice as my Macbook Pro!

Not sure which side of the argument you'd put this one on but we have two laptops in the family (Sony and Dell) both of which were cabbaged by the Win 10 upgrade.

One, the Dell, is vaguely usable but not for going online.
Both report that the valid original Win 7 is not genuine and the Sony wont re install at all.

whilst i am on here tapping away on my Acer Aspire laptop which is i guess 6 or 7 years old now... i still have my Dell desk top tower with 3.5" disk drive option which i bought back in 1999 hence my user name as its when i first truly went on line... and its still works, it may be relatively slow compared to a modern computer, tablet or even mobile phone, but it works!

I use my winXP laptop at work, and still have win95 desktop (yes 95, that was our first and still going strong home computer but very slow, need it for very old programs that no longer work on newer window versions), and also win 7 desktop at home. All work fine.

Never upgraded to Win 10 as heard it was kind of a disaster just like Win Vista.

Win 10 isn't a disaster if you buy a PC with it installed.
The upgrade though was a complete balls up from start to finish in my opinion.
