Slow uptake of Windows 8.......one word 'World recession'.

Oh, that's two words.

...or people just use a lot of smartphones and tablets these days.

Or Windows 7 is still a perfectly good OS that people has embraced and are happy to stick with, fearful of Windows 8's 'tablet' interface and the prospect of buying another stopgap OS like 'Vista'.

Hasn't desktop and laptop purchase slowed down which would equate to slowed down uptake of new OS?

There's a new Win 10 preview today; i didn't have the 8gb free in any partition to update at the time, but do now so it shoukd update.

Uh oh, I hope that's a temporary thing. If I updated my laptop to Win10 I'd need VB for work. :/

It's been working last few weeks
so something in the latest win 10 release killed it :( it won't start at all. Trued compat mode and running as admin.

Avast seems to have been uninstalled as well.

downloaded and installed avita, that worked, maybe an Avast new isntall woudl work, but I've been put off Avast by its pop ups, adverts etc, especially the one which advertises their vpn, suggesting they're monitoring exactly what sites I'm going to and when :(

uninstalled latest virtualbox and got old version 4.3.12 which isn't working, but the vm isn't kernel errors, which google provides lots of answers for, so hopefuly can fix it.

one strange problem I have is when I turn on this pc, network is unavailable, I reboot, and networking is fine, even if I leave it a whiel after switching on before logging in, still have this issue on turning on, so have to bounce it!

apart from that, so far so good?

edit : converted the vdi, to an ova, now it has opened in vmware player, which I haven't used in years, but it seems to be working :)

what a pain, but got there in the end. using vmware I couldn't get the vm to connect to internet, tried a few things, and to be fair, I got bored and thought I'd go back to virtualbox.

so uninstalled virtual box again, and deleted my settings, and all remaing files in program files. reinstalled VirtualBox-4.3.12-93733-Win, created a new vm using existing virtual hard disk,  and all ok now :)

still had to reboot the pc after it started to get network to work :(
