Reliable HDD brands

Nice table here:

The answer seems to be... Hitachi. Which is ironic considering they used to be IBM, and most of us remember the IBM Deathstar. :)

Goes to show how cyclical these things are. Used to be that Hitachi were to be avoided at all costs (Deathstar indeed). Samsung were the best until they were acquired by Seagate, but now they suck.

wow, glad I don't have a Seagate baracuda green!

I think when I got my trusty PII 450, IBM were the best, then WD and Seagate, and Maxtor were cheap for a reason.

it was a few years after that, changed job, and the company I worked for bought IBM PCs, we became very familiar with Deathstars :(

See what you did there...
What's the 'average age in years' in the chart?  Literally how old the drive were?
The drives I use in my NAS (WD 3TB Red) are in there.
I soooooo don't wan't to say this but I've never had a HDD fail..
Also, wrongly maybe, but I still don't think I'd ever get a Hitachi again.

In the interest of balance...

Though I find some of their points valid, others seem invalid.
