ADSL2....speeds

Miles (Elite Donator) posted this on Tuesday, 28th July 2009, 12:38

I currently have BT Business broadband at home (paid for by work).
I`m fairly close to the local exchange (less than 1km away) and I currently connect at 7.2Mbps (which is about the best you can).

I`ve just renewed the contract with BT and will therefore be upgraded to the "next gen" service (aka ADSL2+ ...which has actually been around for years) and this is "up to 20Mb"...but they say I`ll only get around 10Mbps.

I suspect you have to live IN the bloody exchange in order to get their 20Mb speeds (or switch to cable!)

Is anyone else on ADSL2 and getting decent speeds?

About 18Mb and I live opposite the exchange. O2 is my ISP.

Well, they connected me to the new service today.
Currently at 17Mbps...although I expect it will degrade during the 10 day adjustment period!

I ran across an interesting graph on this page (via Hotukdeals). There seem to be quite a few discussions about the net on the subject. Look how the ADSL2+ bitrate plummets as you move away from the exchange :o
