FOX - Blu Ray issues

andysun73 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 13th December 2008, 18:07

Hi

I am unable to play Day After Tomorrow, it is very slow and blocky, on my LG GGC-H20L Internal Blu-Ray , my other Blu Rays work fine. This is my first and probably last purchase from FOX, if they can`t or I can`t find a fix. I have Any DVD running and that doesn`t help.

Who`s to blame FOX or LG for not updating there drivers?

Um, neither. Fox and LG don`t issue `drivers`. If anything it`s likely to be a problem with your playback software or fingerprints/other contamination on the disc. It`s certainly not a reason to boycott all Fox releases.

So maybe it`s a problem with the player. You need to provide a bit more info before anyone can help. There certainly isn`t a widespread issue with Fox BDs not playing.

As I said, we need to know what software you`re using. It`s not an issue with the drive or Fox titles. There are issues with the new version of BD+ and AnyDVD HD (Slysoft are currently working on the latest BD+ fix), but this is not Fox`s fault - BD+ is supposed to prevent copying. If you turn AnyDVD off the blocking and slow playback should cease. It`s also a good idea to have the most up-to-date version of whatever software player you are using.

If I remember, some of the Bond films had issues with AnyDVD, as did Bender`s Game and a few other titles (there`s a list on the Slysoft forums). I thought The Day After Tomorrow was an old title though? In any event, it should play if you turn AnyDVD HD off.

Even AnyDVD HD doesn`t work with this new edition of BD+. Slysoft has announced it may take one to two months to crack.

Why should they have to crack it? why should I have to buy these things to watch blu ray?

Its insane!

Wasn`t that what I was saying in my post? :/ That two month estimate was made back in October as well.

You don`t need to use AnyDVD to watch Blu-rays on your PC. You only need it if you are intending to illegally rip the film or take screen caps etc, all of which the studios don`t want you doing (Fox in particular). If you turn AnyDVD off and the BD still does not work, update your software player (you still haven`t told us which one you`re using). I don`t know how to make it any plainer than that.

This is not an issue with all Fox Blu-rays. I have the exact same BD drive as you in my PC and all of the recent Fox titles (Bender`s Game, the Bond films) I`ve received have played back perfectly well after I switched off AnyDVD.

I know what drive you have - I also have it. It`s your playback software I was interested in (PowerDVD or whatever you use). The 7600GT is fine for BD with H/W acceleration enabled.
