monitor to TV -conversion is it do-able?

Sue Davies (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 25th November 2008, 09:29

Been looking for some help on this as we have a spare monitor since getting lap top.

I`ve read some technical guidelines but they are too...technical!!

Would it be cheaper to sell the monitor and buy a flat screen tv?

thanks for your help in words of one syllable if possible

Sue

In my opinion (sorry, that was more than one syllable)... yes! :D

I disagree - you can buy a converter box for less than £30 which will let you use your old LCD monitor as a TV. Example here : Gadmei VGA TV box
I doubt if you could buy any LCD TV for that cheap.
If you sold your old monitor, you wouldn`t get enough to buy even a secondhand LCD TV so you`ll have to add some more money from your own pocket. You`ll have to decide if that will amount to more than the cost of the VGA converter. I think it will.

Interesting to note Hamid. The last time I`d looked for something like that they were over £100 and were flaky at best.

You don`t know if they do one with a digital tuner do you?

You need to factor in that you`d need a dvi-hdmi cable, although they`re not very expensive if you look on amazon. Not sure if there are other options beyond hdmi as this isn`t something I`ve looked at doing before...
