Utorrent/ Port Forwarding problem

1mills (Elite) posted this on Monday, 19th November 2007, 13:59

Right this is doing my head in now.

Been going back and forth trying to sort out Utorrent this weekend but having no joy.

About a month ago I did set myself static IP address and did all the portforwarding guides and everything worked fine, until I tried one day and it said the Port wasn`t forwarded. :/

Basically the house I`m in, is on Sky Broadband and is using a Netgear DG834GT router.

I`ve been searching around and changed the Port that Utorrent is using to 50100 (as I`ve read that setting it between 50,000- 60,000 will get better results).

Anyone got any ideas or point me in the direction of somewhere else where I can get some more info (random searching doesn`t appear to be doing me any good :( )

Where is it saying that the port won`t forward? On your router or via a site you are testing it on?

A windows security update could have gayed up the settings in windows firewall.

If you frowarded the port from the router and neither this, not the port set in utorrent have changed, then try to work out the last thing that has.

Failing that, change the port in uTorrent and set it on your router and see if it still says no.

When I had problems with mine I got it working without a firewall running first.

I was just taking the word of the site it tests when you press it on Utorrent.

The strange thing is it said the port was open when I tried not long after posting yesterday and then afterwards said it wasn`t again :/

Although I`m skeptical if it was actually open at the time as the speeds I was getting were still woeful.

I`ve had a scan on Windows Firewall and it was in the list of allowed programs and had earlier tried forwarding to another port.

Cheers for advice, I`ll have another mess about this weekend to see if I can get it to work.

Are you running Peer Guardian? If so disable it while you run the uTorrent Port Test. I had this problem the last time I changed my set up, PG was blocking the test page response.

Last time I had problems it was because DHCP had changed the IP I was receiving, so all the forwards were to an IP I wasn`t using. Are you sure yours is still static?

Did you make it "static" on the PC, or simply specify which address DHCP returns to you?
