Wireless problems Dynamode 54m 802.11g router

Hi
I hope someone can help, I have just purchased a dynamode broadband lifestyle wireless router 802.11g, I am trying to connect it to my desktop, I am following the quick install instructions, but seem to have problems connecting to the internet, when i click on the icon it says it is connected, but when i go to access the web it tells me internet not connected or web page could not be found. I am wondering if the problem lies with me trying to run this on Micrsoft vista, although it does not state that it will not run on this system. I a very new to this wireless router lark, and it says on the box easy set up ibn 5 mins i have now been on this 2 days , can anyone give me a basic ideal on how to maybe set this up correctly

Hi

could be a couple of things..

first off, what type of broadband do you use? is it cable based (ntl/telewest virgin media)
or is it ADSL - BT/Tiscali/Sky etc?

if it`s cable based, you normally have to register the routers MAC address before you
can get online...to do this, simply connect everything up via ethernet.
pc >router (LAN) >router (WAN) > cable modem.
power everything down completely...i.e. unplug from the mains so that the devices
are not in "standby" mode.
next, power up the modem and let it settle into standby mode, then wait a minute then
power it up completely, next power up the router, then finally the pc.

you *should* now be able to get online via ethernet, you can now access the router
and configure the wireless settings.

if it`s ADSL based, have you entered your ISP supplied username and password?
if not, enter them and then re-boot the router.

another thing to consider is whether your pc is trying to use TCP/IPv6. i`ve spoken to
a few people who have had issues using this protocol. in your network settings
on vista, check that TCP/IPv4 is enabled...if there`s a tick next to TCP/IPv6, simply
remove it to disable v6...from what i gather, you can`t uninstall it, only disable it.

one final thing to check (not sure where it is on vista) is that the LAN is not trying to
connect via a "proxy" server. you might find this information in control panel>internet
options (or the vista equivalent). under "connections" there`s a subsection called
LAN settings, click that to see if there`s a tick in the "proxy server" box.
unless you are using a proxy server, you can remove the tick and click apply etc.
