Page 1 of Virgin media: Xbox live can`t connect

well, It can`t find the dhcp severs or summat.

any ideas?

Just done a test now and it seems that the connection will only work with the pc. If I plug any other connection into the modem it won`t work.

I need a router don`t I......?

well, i don`t know if live is back on, but last night i couldn`t connect.
MTU errors or something.

are you using a cable modem?

turn off the modem completely.
connect the 360 to it via the ethernet cable.
plug the cable modem back in and wait till it settles into standby.
power up the modem.
power up the 360.

voila - live access (hopefully)

the reason for lack of connection is due to telewest/ntl/virgin medias reliance
on MAC address access. basically, for a new peice of equipment to be
connected to the modem, you have to register it`s MAC address......luckily
all you have to do now is follow the instruction above. a couple of years ago
you had to phone them and ask them to add the MAC address.

oh, yeah, get yourself a wifi router...the netgear WGT624 is a good `un

re= connecting to live, as said above, when you swap the ethernet cables over, switch the modem off, then switch it back on once the 360 is connected & it should work, & repeat when you plug the pc back in.

but yes, a router would fix this hassle, the only time you would reboot the modem once a router is connected is if you change the router. also, most routers let you plug new devices in without re-starting the router etc.

Thanks guys.. all the above works.. hell of a pain in the ass unplugging (no power switch) the modem every time I put a new Ethernet in , 1 for xbox, 1 for my pc and one for the wife`s... anyway, new router ASAP I think.. I`ve tried plugging in old adsl modem/routers using a crossover cable to the new modem.. but no luck. Have to buy a new one! By the way.. speed is blisteringly fast!!! :)
