mpeg conversion help needed

mercury1 (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 17th March 2007, 14:49

Hi all. I always like to state at the beginning of any P.C. related thread I start how much of a P.C. novice I am so please bear with me.
As some of you may know I bought my better half a digital photo frame for xmas (didn`t come till January but hey-ho) easy to work picture and sound wise but could not get video side working at all. Finally got it working this morning (March!!) turns out the format is mpeg4 (?) so i downloaded a freesampler of (something called) avs4you and converted my quicktime camera vids to mpeg and they play (actually play as nero media player files).
Problem however is that as I used a sampler the vids have"Avs4you and some speel" plastered across the screen when running. Now of course i could register for the full avs package etc and I probably will unless someone can give me a (free preferably) alternative.
I have no broadband and a very tempremental connection (disconnects every 45-50 mins for no apparent reason) and i am really thick when people talk in codes (or codecs whatever they are)
So basically can someone tell me of a package that could help that is extremely straight forward to find and download - cannot overemphasise that part enough!!

cheers

have you tried looking on cnet.com and seeing if they have any free stuff on there, i managed to find this one, under 600k in size and totally free with no limitations.

can`t say how good or bad it is as i`ve never used it.

hope it`s of help :)

What`s the file extension of the resulting (working) video that it plays?
Also - do you know what resolution it supports?

Perhaps there`s an online specification for it that we can review and offer advice?

There are tons of video conversion tools around - and some of them may well do what you want for free.
