laptop battery in or out when using mains?

Should I take out the laptop battery when using the mains?

I rarely use the battery as the laptop is used around the house. Would the battery have a longer life by not being connected to the mains and just insert it, charge and then use when necessary, say 2 or 3 times a year or should I use the laptop on batteries for the couple of hours I normally use it around the house and then charge it up? I don`t want to use it on mains most of the time only to find the battery has past its life when I need it away from the mains.

thanks

tbh, i`ve recently started removing my battery when connected to the mains.

my lappy has recently been returned to me from a spell of "warranty work". the lappy
would freeze and wouldn`t load windows. i replaced the hdd and all was well for a day
or so until it started happening again. this time i sent it back for repairs and the summary
was that the battery was knackered.....it would hold charge for around 15 minutes, but i`m
not entirely convinced the battery was the cause of the problem.

however, rather than risk f***ing up the battery again, i now remove it when it`s not
needed.

........is that gasoline i smell?

Hi guys

I wonder if this is similar to a problem that I`m having.

Everytime I try to power up my laptop with the mains attached, the fan starts to spin, but nothing loads. If I start it without the mains attached it starts to boot up fine, however, as soon as I put the mains in the laptop flashes a blue screen and turns off. It can take me upto 8 attempts to get it working.

If I remove the battery pack from inside, do you think the laptop will work better??

Cheers for any light you can shed!!
