Same number from Contract -> PAYG -> Contract?

/////AMG (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 9th August 2006, 20:46

Ok I have a question.

My dad is with `3` and got a killer deal from one of those cash back sites (12 months free line rental and free phone on a 12month contract).
Basically his contract is almost over. I phoned `3` and asked if I found something from another site and its with the 3 network, could I transfer this current number to the new contract. She said no, the same network doesn`t accept the PAC code within the same network, fair enough.

So I was thinking, what if I got the PAC code and transferred it to lets say a Virgin (or any other network except 3) on PAY AS YOU GO, then once thats done, get a PAC code from Virgin and give it to 3 and take out that contract, would that work?

If I could do it this way then I would save a years contract to go back to 3.
The main reason he wants 3 is because he can check his minutes easily and quickly and they also give a lot of minutes for nothing.

Thanks in advance. :)

THO had her contract (not 3) transferred to PAYG at the end of the last 12 month, to go back to a contract (keep the number & take advantage of new phone\contract deal) it would have to be with another (3) service provider as I understand it.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

Not all networks accept PACs for PAYG - I know Orange do (or did) though. Not sure about in the other direction - can you get a PAC for a PAYG number?

Found this on another fourm, I`ll give it a try:

www.easymobile.com

Quote:
buy an easymobile simcard (£3) and port your number to it during signup, they have no minimum commitment and it`s all done online so just a few clicks to port your number in and a couple more to port it out again when you are ready for your new contract

ive done this to keep a couple of numbers i wanted to port back to the same network on new contracts and it worked 100% every time

I sure will, I rang `3` and PAC codes are only valid for 30 days, so I`ll request that on the 22nd of this month since the last day of his contract is September 22nd.

This is correct, you cannot transfer your number to another sim on the same network.

You can:

1. Get your 3 contract changed to a PAYG at the end of the contract, this keeps your number, you can then out your sim in another 3 handset.

2. Transfer (as you said) to a virgin or other PAYG, then wait 30days, then back to a 3 PAYG.

Good luck.
