Anyone with a Sony-Ericsson W810i?

MadPom (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 18th June 2006, 09:37

How do you find the phone? I`m quite interested but on the test one I "played" with I found the keys to be quite noisy, and the joystick rather small and fiddly. I currently have an old Nokia 6230 on PAYG but I`m going to need a new contract soon as my usage is about to go up again (new job further from home).

I did have a SE k750i for a week late last year but returned it due to problems with bluetooth (kept hanging, loosing connection to the headset etc). Searching Google reveals this is a common fault, but I haven`t found similar comments about the W810i - does this mean that the W810i is solid as far as bluetooth is concerned?

Thanks in advance for opinions!
Rob

i`ve got both the w800i & the w810i, both superb phones with excelent camera`s & amazing walkans, the headphones are the best i`ve ever had, imo, the keypad layout is slightly better on the w810i & the screens seems brighter, but i`d highly recomend either. + of course you get a 512meg card with it in the box, so your ready to go music wise streight away :) (i`ve got a 2 gig one in mine :) )

also, never had any probs with the blootooth at all, on either phone.

Never mind, it`ll all come out in the wash.

I went from the 6230 to the W810i and I`m well happy with the swap. The W810i does everything the nokia done but has a much much better camera and screen. As Ogster says you also get a great pair of earphones and a 512MB card.

You`ll get used to the key layout as well in no time and it also has a few extra nice features the 6230 didn`t have. No problems using bluetooth for me either.

If you liked your 6230 then you`ll love the W810i.

thats actualy a very strong theme with the w800/w810, i had my 6230 for well over a year (a record for me) simply because nothing else matched upto it in either functionality or battery life, not one of the symbian based phones could last beyond 5 hours whilst playing mp3`s whilst the 6230 could go all day, & a good chunk into the next day (working day that is, not 24hrs a day :) ) & the walkman phones have simularly good battery life + a much much better camera & media player.

i`ve always been a nokia fan, never liked any other brand untill the new sony`s came out. but for me the nokia operating system has gotten so old & clumbsy (symbian or symbian based) i`ve lost all interest in them, imo the last good phone nokia made was the 6230 & the 6230i.

EDIT= re "sticky" & fiddly joystick, it`s only the w800i that has the joystick, the 810i has a central button surrounded by directional buttons instead (i also found the 800i`s joystick hard to use)

hope this helps.

Cheers for the advice! Decided to take the plunge and get one. It arrived today and having spent the last couple of hours playing it does seem pretty decent. My thumbs are a bit sore actually from messing about, especially from the navigation pad. Keys are not as noisy as all the shop demo ones I`ve played with so I`m pleased about that. Also bluetooth seems quite stable (compared to a K750i I had to return last year) but have managed to crash it once!
