DVD Juke Box on my PC?

Colin Mitton (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 9th January 2006, 14:03

I have a large number of DVD`s and CD`s (but don`t we all!!) I have just started putting my CD`s on to my PC as MP3`s and was wondering about my DVD`s if I could do the same? This would be very handy as I would like to put on to my PC and play back on a couple of differnt TV`s...

I know I can get various play back devices for MP3`s to attach to Hi-Fi equipment and us the PC as a jukebox. But is there much out there for DVD`s...

If anyone has any Ideas or is currently doing it please let me know!!

Thanks....

Hi

there are a few "media" server type products available.

D-Link, Philips do one and so do Lite-On (LVW2010 i think?) which when hooked upto
a pc will transmit video/sound to a tv.

i`m not sure about the Dlink/Philips models but know that the the lite-on model uses
WiFi (or ethernet) to stream media.

they use a variety of formats such as DVD / DivX / Mpeg etc.

You would need a fairly hefty HDD if you were just to rip DVD to disk seeing as a ripped
DVD could accomodate upto 5GB of HDD space. DivX would offer a better solution but
takes ages (trust me i`ve tried) to convert from DVD.

........is that gasoline i smell?
