The best thing to do is take a quick straw poll of the networks your most called people are on and go for that, so you arent constantly going cross network.

For me everyone on PAYG is on virgin and vodaphone for contract, so i went for virgin. They only charge 3p to text another virgin mobile, so theres no need to get caught up in the text/minute bundle PAYG scam. 100 texts to another virgin phone for 3 quid. Not bad in my book.

I used to be on Virgin, as had my wife and kids on it too. It worked out cheap for us. But we switched to o2 at Xmas when we got the kids new phones that happened to be on o2.

The last two month we`ve been using the o2 online sims from the free offer, and can only say it`s excellent value. I`ve just topped up today, and for the £10 top up I`ve had 2hrs 24 mins of calls last month (including the free 100 mins), using the counter on my phone to keep track of calls.

If you can get a free sim in one of the free sim days, all the better (there was one posted in the Bargains Forum just a couple of days ago). If not, you can buy a sim pack from the o2 website for £10, it`s a really good tariff, flexible too.

Make sure you get an o2 `online` sim, ie from the website, not a `high street` sim you`d buy in the shops, as they don`t come with the free allowances.

What you get is, in initial setup, 300 free texts a month and 1mb of free wap usage providing you top up £10 a month, if you don`t use your full £10 then you free allowances just reset from the date you next top up. Straight away you can choose to switch to calls and texts, which instead of 300 texts, gives you 100 `credits` which you can use for 100 anytime/any network calls, or 100 texts, or 33 MMS messages (1 MMS is = to 3 text or 3 mins of calls). Or you can use a combination of the above.

We`ve found it great value, and once you allowance for the month is used, you just revert to the normal tatriff for the rest of the month, which is 25p for the first 3 mins of the day, then 5p a min thereafter for o2 or landline calls, and 40p a min X network.

If you are more of a high user there`s a £15 top up option, which gives you 150 credits (150 anytime/any network minutes) per month. It`s like a contract tariff without the contract, best value one we`ve had up to now. :)
