Page 1 of Changing broadband providers

Fed up with Tiscali, their crap service and their annoying habit of cutting me off whenever I start on the P2P stuff. Someone`s recommended PlusNet and I have to admit I`m tempted, but I need to get my equipment details and my MAC code from Tiscali before I can cross over to them.
Emailed Tiscali asking for the relevant info and got the following reply:
Quote:
Thank you for contacting Tiscali Customer Support.
Please note that Tiscali does not support migrations. Hence, we are unable to provide you with the Migration Access Code.
Also, I can confirm from our records that the BT product type on your line is BT IP Stream Home 2000.
Apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Not exactly helpful, so am I stuck with these buggers then? I was under the impression that they were obliged to provide an MAC?
Suggestions welcome on how to sort this one out!
"Hmm, new teeth, that`s weird. So where was I? Oh that`s right, Barcelona..."

I`m pretty certain that it isn`t obligatory for service providers to provide MACs on request. Some do but clearly not Tiscali. Only thing I can suggest is to ask the alternative provider what the way forward is and providing that your not tied in by any contract then I can`t see why you shouldn`t be able to change. I would be interested to know if my porovider(Pipex)gives MACs on request - I`m happy with their service but would consider changing solely for money reasons i.e. to save some.
