How do you unlock mobiles with a code generator

Brandon Heat (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 3rd August 2005, 08:52

I`ve found this site which provides unlocking codes for free. However there are several things i don`t get.

1. How do you enter these codes on the mobile. Do you have to be on a particular screen or menu to do so.

2.how do you know if your phone is dct4 or dct3

3.What does the generator want to know when it asks for a "gen" with stuff like v1, v2, griffin clip, original etc

4. Will the service provider try to bar me from using such codes until i have satisfied certain conditions such as spending so much on their tariffs

I`m trying to unlock a nokia 3310 on virgin mobile. As i intend to sell it it isn`t worth spending up to £6m unlocking in a shop or market so this site is ideal.

Try here.

Remove SIM & switch on, the special code characters are generated by pressing either the * or # keys on the keypad.

The Nokia is dct3 TBOMK.

If you are on a contract you are bound to stay on the contract for the minimum term or payback the amounts that they subsidised the phone to provide to you.

If its PAYG tuff luck to them.

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

The Nokia 3310 is a DCT3 phone.

If attempting to unlock a DCT3/4 Nokia, I have a good look around these forums HERE. There is also an on line calculator link on the site.

Some (if not all) Virgin phones have 2 locks

There have been some cases where you don`t use the "standard" settings of the calculator (had to unlock a Nokia 3210 on Orange PAYG, and from the forum found that you had to use a different box setting, otherwise, I would also recommend the Trycktill site).

Hope it helps.

PS I`ll do it for half of what Flyer offered to do it for :D :D
