Well guys. I finally did it. I bought a wireless kit (Netghear DG384G + WG111 USB adapter). I have 1 computer and 1 laptop. I have connected the computer to the router succesfully via an ethernet cable and I had hoped to connect/share my internet connection with my laptop. But, the laptop is not connecting to internet even though the computer says the adapter is working properly. I am not sure what to do or to be perfectly honest where to start?
I am a pretty patient individual and would happily go through a step by step evaluation of what I may be doing wrong so if you are willing to check this thread on a regular basuis I would be very grateful.
Thanks Again.
Hi
first off, is the wireless adaptor configured to obtain it`s IP address automatically
and is the router configured (enabled) as a DHCP server?
have you created an encrypted security key? either WEP or WPA? if so you need
to make sure that the same key is given to the wireless adaptor...this is usually
a hexadecimal value like...00-a2-e4-01-c6-e3 or similar..
can you connect to the routers config page by typing the necessary URL into your
web browser? (normally in the 192.168.xxx.xxx range)
you may find that the router has MAC (media access control) filtering enabled and will
not allow any wireless hardware to connect to it that isn`t specified in the exceptions
list...
have a look at these first and let us know
Ste.
........is that gasoline i smell?
