GPRS Problems Abroard

doove (Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 18th May 2005, 15:24

Hi,

In the UK, I built a PC with a GPRS modem attached with a data enabled simm inside. I connected to it via a BT line to pull off info. Worked perfectly.

The PC is now in the south of France and when I connect, the modem answers, however the handshaking does not seem correct. The English PC gives out the usual sound, however the PC in France gives a bleep, then another bleep, then a long bleep and then cuts the connections. Nothing has changed and I do not understand why it will no longer work.

Does anyone have the answer..........and as a guess it is not smarties.

Is it a UK sim? Was it enabled for international roaming and international GPRS?

If it is a UK sim remember that you`re going to pay international GPRS rates when you do get it working and they can be pretty hefty. As my £80 phone bill from Canada last year will confirm :(

Yes it is a UK Simm. Yes in is enabled for international roaming and international GPRS.

At the moment the cost is not an issue.
