Page 1 of Here we go again - mobile recommendations please

Just been informed by Vodafone that I`m able to upgrade to "almost any" current phone for free. Was suggested a shortlist of the Nokia 7610, Sony S700i, Samsung D500 and Motorola V3.

I`m currently using a 6600, and apart from the sluggishness, I like it. I use the synch to PC for calendar info. I would like something that will let me listen to MP3s, and has a decent camera. From reviews, the 7610 doesn`t seem much (if any) of an advance on the 6600.

Any suggestions?

apart from the camera you`ll struggle find anything other than cosmetic differences (tbh this holds with most symbian phones, Not that thats a bad thing :) ) go into a store & actually have a play with the phones, i personally can`t stand the v3 or the d500 but it`s all down to personal taste :)

Ive used both the D500 and the V3. If you want a phone for texts , calls and photos, then its the V3 for you cos the great shape , user friendly moto icons and colour (the black one i mean) are great. If you want a camera/video player and an mp3 player and some memory for storage and want to upload to your PC, then the D500 is the one.
I have the D500, only because i like to combine an MP3 player with my phone, but if you dont need this, then the V3 is for you but that said, i have the samsung and battery life is poor so take your pick.
The new nokia may be worth hanging on for, its got room for 3000 tunes so if thats what yr after, get that. There aint a lot between any of em,most have 1.3 upto 2 meg pixel cameras attached, just depends what you want, and what you need, once you know that, the choice will be easy. As Chris says, go to the store, have a play, ask questions. Good luck mate.

Well as I don`t have an MP3 player at the mo, and I use a big (in size) digicam, an MP3 player and reasonable digicam on a phone are rather tempting. As the rest of the family run Nokias, the temptation is to remain with them to keep the charger situatiopn under control.

Don`t think I`ll bother jumping to the 7610 - perhaps I`ll wait for a few months to upgrade and see what the new Nokias are like. Did consider the 6310i, but I do like the big screen of the 6600.

if you decide on a nokia just remember to make sure that it has a stereo output otherwise the mp3 player function is useless (the 7610 is mono, whereas the older n-gage is stereo :/ :/ ) dunno about the other models, i`m sticking with my trusty old 6230 for the foreseeable (very sp) future (stereo/mp3/radio/amazing battery life etc etc etc ;) )

You really cannot go wrong with the Nokia 6630 or 6230i. Both will do what you need, and the 6630 gets rid of the sluggishness of the 6600 and replaces it with the newer and much more stable Version 8 Symbian OS.

Trust me mate, these are really the only two you need to consider. I work in a phone shop 42 hours a week and see all the good and bad, and these two really outstrip everything else sales wise. Both get the most oohs and aahs from the demo stand, and EVERY customer who walks out with either, always gives us good fedback

The d500 is superb, but lack of expandable memory kills it for me. The s700i, tho still good, really loses out due to the slow OS and slightly dodgy mp3 player. Plus it`s big and has a poor battery, (but an oh so lovely camera - again beaten by the 6630), so choose these two in confidence!

Apparently Vodafone have removed the 6630 from their range at the moment, so it`s currently not an option. I`ll hold on and see what`s what in a month or so - hopefully they will have got it back, as it does seem the logical choice.
I need to stick with Vodafone, as it`s the only network that works in our house with more than 1 bar. And they have a reliable email to SMS service, which is essential for me.

Hmmm - I see the 6630 is on the vodafone website though - might have to make a call....

don`t bother with the sony 700i,the phone ok,but its just to slow,it can take you 2-3 minutes to scroll through the pictures you have saved on it.

Bingo! the 6630 is available, and will arrive with me on Tuesday :D

How are you finding the 6630? I can get it for free, or for the 6230i for £30 so I`m debating between the 2 at the moment.

Got the 6600 but it does my head in - fed up with texts coming in with surname firstname and how sodding slow it can be. Plus the fact that you can only have one voice tag per contact (the 6310i was better than that).

Don`t want to use 3G stuff - I presume the 6630 can just work as a `normal` phone?

Like being able to browse the web on the 6600 - I`d lose that if I went for the 6230i I think. What`s e-mail like on the the 6630?
