Connecting to Pipex via ADSL Modem/Router
Hi all,
Attempted to connect to my new Broadband service last night with one of these: Ebuyer 4 port ADSL/Modem Router with no joy.
Connected fine with the supplied Speedtouch though which is no good as I want use Xbox Live.
The diagnostic report pass`s all tests untill the "ppp layer connection" test and then returns a fail.
Any ideas.
Thanks.

Sounds like you havent put the details of user account & password into the router?
Set the IP address of the X-Box & put that IP address in the router as a DMZ (De-Militarised Zone), that should allow packets to pass from the XB to the router & the WWW & vice versa.

RE: Connecting to Pipex via ADSL Modem/Router
Hope this helos a bit, am on pipex as well and use a netgear router.
The router ADSL settings should be as follows................
Does your internet connection require a login - Yes
Encapsulation - PPPoA (PPP over ATM)
Login id - (your Id)@xtreme(your server number).pipex.net
password - (your password)
Idle timeout - 0
IP address - get from isp
Donaim name server (dns) - use these dns servers
primary dns - 158.43.240.4
secondary dns - 158.43.240.3
NAT (network address translation) - enabled
Multi plexing method - VC-Based
Virtual Curcuit - VPI - 0 VCI - 38
You will then need to set up your pc`s ip address or use DHCP, dont forget to set your internet connection setting to - never dial a connection.
As far as I know, the X-box works hapily with DHCP.
Hope that helps,
All the best
Ger.

RE: Connecting to Pipex via ADSL Modem/Router
IP address - get from isp - This would be automatically assigned when you connect, no need to ask.
Domain name server (dns) I havent selected any
Don`t forget to save your settings & reboot. ;)

RE: Connecting to Pipex via ADSL Modem/Router
Sorry didnt mean get form isp as in give them a ring and ask, that is the setting on the netgear router. As Ras saidm it just means automatically assigned/dhcp ip address.
Should have read it a bit closer
All the best
Ger.
