Good Looking DVD -/+/RAM Drive Spotted

EmilyHoward (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 19th February 2005, 22:30

Trapsing round the computer fair this morning, I came across a stall selling an x16 speed LG DVD writer that was not only dual layer, not only + and -, but was also compatible with DVD-RAM discs as well-reading AND writing-All for 50 quid...

Certainly a nice option for those Panny DVD recorder owners who would like to involve their PC in the authoring process.

Thought I`d mention it-I haven`t seen this model before.

I bought this drive for much the same reasons as having a Panny wanted the RAM capability, can`t fault it so far

I was thinking about updating my 4x LG writer for this drive and wondered how well it works with media?

I`m having terrible trouble finding 4x full-face ink-jet media that work at 4 speed and the ones I have found ( only Datasafe Fujitsu code 8x) write fine but don`t play well in my Panasonic E50. They start playing OK but get blocky and lock-up later in the films?? They play ok on the PC though.

I`m not having problems with older 2x and most 4x media and I have the latest firmware up-dates?

Hey guys(and gals) am taking the plunge and getting an internal DVD writer. Just wondering what the latest thoughts are on these products. I`ve been looking at the ebuyer link. LG, Pioneer or NEC. They`re all reasonably priced so whats the best in terms of reliability & ease of use. I don`t have a panny recorder so RAM writing isn`t a factor.
Thanks for your input folks.
Pete :)

Ive just bought the same lg dvd burner (LG-GSA4163), mainly for the compatability with dvd ram as ive just got one of the new Panasonic recorders(DMRES10 ), the lg is a fantastic burner, highly recommended from me + easy to update with the latest firmware from the lg site
