Nuisance texts

bowfer (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 10th February 2005, 10:10

My wife,in a moment of half-drunk stupidity a few weeks ago, sent for the intensely annoying frog ringtone. >:( >:(
She can`t remember who she sent for it from, but it was an advert off one of the TV music channels.
Anyway, every week she is getting texts saying "you have qualified for a ringtone".
No number or anything.
Even if she deletes it,she loses £3 from her credit.
Can her provider do anything about this ?? :/
It`s O2.

Try phoning O2 customer services, they should be able to tell you where the txt are coming from, and should be able to tell you the company name, contact details and how to unsubscribe.

It`ll have been Jamster.co.uk, they`re always advertising it on TV, now they`ve got the cheeky chick too...lol

I heard the frog made them £14m can`t be bad. I`d make sure she hsan`t inavertently subsribed to a package if I were you. My wife went on Jamster a couple of weeks ago looking for the frog tone, she`d went through all the screens without checking with me, and subbed to an 8 tone package. They take something like £6 from you account every month (or was it every week I forget now), automatically and give you credits for ringtones and logos.

I found a screen in there where you could cancel it before they started ransacking her account. :)

I`d just try logging in and seeing if she`s got an account, it doesn`t sound like it was a one off ringtone.

An even better way to get them if you have a sound recorder on your phone, is to just play the preview on the websites, and record it from your PC speakers...no cost involved...lol ;)

Mark. :)

Cheers for the tip off about Jamster
I`ve gone onto their website
I clicked on customer services and there`s a `cancel all agreements` option.
They send you a password before you can cancel.
What`s the betting they`ll charge for that password ???? >:(
There`s no actual way, that I can see,of checking if it is them my wife has set herself up with but I`ll try cancelling them anyway.
Honestly,what a carry on.
There really should be legislation against this scummy and underhand practice. >:(
The laugh of it is,she didn`t even get the ringtone loaded ! :/

"There are no jamster accounts activated for this mobile number"
