ok, you changed your OS from xp to 2k pro? then your machine has pegged it?

i`d say yes, you`ve voided your warranty by modifying its original state.
i might be wrong though as no doubt someone will correct me.

Arent you modifying it from its original state everytime you use it? Otherwise you would never be able to install new software, surf the web or download any files.

If you have a hardware problem such as the machine wont switch on then that is unrelated to the operating system anyway. If there is a problem with the machine getting to windows then crashing or locking up then it may be a software problem and they might well expect you to use a restore disc to return the machine to its original spec to eliminate any software you may have installed. But either way I wouldnt expect you to have any problem with the warranty because you have changed the version of windows.

if it`s a hardware fault then you should still be covered, if it`s a software fault then thats a different matter, whats the problem with the pc ?

If the hdd is dead they will never know it was changed to win2k.
If the mobo is replaced and the old hdd is reused the engineer may tell you to remaster the PC (he /she may even want to start the process, but i bet they wont hang around to see the end of it!!)just tell them not to do the remaster!

PS Where did you buy it from & what make is it?

If its hardware, they will just swap out the offending part.

As stated software (& data) is not covered under warrenty, as the user can crash it (all to easily).

Most likely they would want to restore back to default from a image or walk away saying its not our problem as you have configured it & caused the fault, if that were the case.

I enjoy being wrong and clueless on other subjects - My wife usually alerts me to which ones, as there seem to be an awful lot around the house.
