Can English mobile work on a French Simm card...
My daughter who lives in France wants a mobile for Xmas. If I buy let`s say a Nokia here in the UK and get it unlocked would it work in France with a French SIMM card? Thanks

Yes, though the OSD for the Sim may be in French??????

OSD yep On Screen Display, only ever used English (US & UK) Sims, not sure if the language of the SIM defaults to that of the phone, beyond that no reason why it shouldnt work.

Cheers, time to find a bargain. I have asked my daughter to choose a mobile phone for Christmas/Birthday. We had a conversation about it and she told me she did not want anything fancy. Tonight I called her and she gave me a list of 4 phones - Nokia 6260, 7610, 6200, 6820 - I think she is testing the deptht of my wallet. If you know any way in getting one of these phone at a reasonable price please feel free to tell me, thanks again.

Find a phone in back pages of the Sun/Mirror on 12 month contract (6 month half price), unlock phone & slip in French SIM.
Going to do same myself as Orange wont upgrade my phone cheaply enough (need to keep the contract).

Have you pushed them hard enough Rassilon ? I had exactly the same problem with Vodafone until I rang them to cancel my contract then all of a sudden they could offer me a free upgrade on the same phone they wanted £100 for.

I am on Everyday 50 (something they want to get rid of I think), 50p a day & 50 mins offpeak a day, my wife easily takes 30 mins of talking (with 30 mins of me yes dearing), no other tariff seems to suit (1500+ Mins free a month).
I think they may well offer a incentive to upgrade if I change plan, but this is something I dont want to do for the above reason, also I cant use the phone on-site where I work so its only used at night, the business pays for it so I want to keep the number for continuity.

Hi - been reading your good advice - was going to do the same - but not sure how to "unlock" the phone. Any ideas? Sounds like you have done it before. Thanks
