Page 1 of AGP CARD COMPATABIILITY QUESTION. PLEASE HELP

I need a new agp card for my motherboard and am looking for a cheap second hand one. my motherboard will run a agp 4x card. and i cam a bit confused. please can some one answer the following questions.

1) my motherboard will run a agp card 4x. will a agp card 2x work? and will a agp card 8x work but run at 4x?

2) will any 4x agp card work in my motherboard or does it has to be specfic one?

3) does the agp card has to be 4x for it to work on my m/b or will any agp card work?

the m/b i have got is a pc chips m810lr which has o/b graphics card but does not work and no signal is inputed through the moniter when pc is turned. i have checked and it is the o/b graphics card that is faulty and i do have a agp slot to put in a new card.

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on the type of AGP slot that`s fitted to the motherboard, and the type of connector the card has. See this ATI page for details of the various configurations - if the motherboard has the "universal" type of AGP slot, it should (in theory) accept any AGP card.

As far as I know, the M810LR does have a universal slot, but I`d check to make sure.

Should do, yes.

In theory, any 4x AGP card should work, although in reality there may be incompatibilities with specific cards. Before you buy a card, it`s probably worth doing a search to see if anyone with the same motherboard has reported problems with that card.

Also depends on the voltage.

This new mobo of mine will *not* take the 3v AGP stuff....
