tele isnt used for anything other than the usual sky, teresteral,(spelt that wrong me thinks) dvds etc,

Half life?

OK, here`s the "gauge" of TV life:

CRT: At around 20 years it will become too dark or blurry to watch
LCD: Around 15 years life expectancy
Plasma: 10 to 12 years expectancy
DLP: 4 to 5 years lamp life expectancy, replace the lamp and reset to 4 to 5 years again (eg: every five years change the bulb and off you go again)

This is only on the viewable screen life, not other components (power supply etc)

It`s also a "guess" thing.
Some people will have a plasma last 20 to 30 years, others will get 3 to 5. This is the same for all TV types, and I`ll take bets on the number of people who`ve had CRT`s written off in the 2 year onwards being high.
(just search the forums and you`ll see!)
