Trust Time to sell a modem which can only dial out to their ISP! :o Whoever is behind this scam needs a public flogging.

It`s quite easy to get around, though - you just have to install a new driver. See here for details.

Just bought a new PC from Tiny and found I had the same problem with my modem being locked to supanet. I phoned Tiny`s helpline and this is what I had to do to de-optimize (as they call it) my modem.
First you need to sign up to Supanet and create a "classic" pay as you go account, and register your username and password.
Once you have done this you can go online (using Supanet) and go to the following website.

https://signup.supernet.com/cgi-bin/myaccount

Sign in and choose De-optimise Dialler PC.
Follow onscreen instructions and your modem will be unlocked allowing you to set up with another ISP.

The process takes about 10mins to do and is quite easy. Hope this helps anyone who has bought a PC from Tiny/Time

Heh! Did you remember to optimize your front door before you left for work this morning? :D

It`s interesting that they`ve backpedalled on this - they`ve obviously had a lot of complaints! Anyway, from what you say it seems that they`ve provided an easy way out of the modem locking, although installing a new driver may be a better option for those who don`t want to give their personal details to Supanet.

I forgot to mention that I downloaded and installed the XP HSF generic driver
(mine is a CNXT V9x PCI Modem) but still couldn`t dial alternative ISP, so the supanet option in my case was the last resort. :)

I`ve unistalled my (CNXT V9x PCI modem), and tried the Generic modem, but had no luck connecting to an alternate ISP. I`ve tried to reinstall the original but can`t seem to find them on the drivers CD, can anyone help?

Help. Just bought a TIME PC and seem to be having the same trouble as everyone else with the modem as I don`t want to use `Supernet`. I tried putting another modem in the pc but this did not work and now I can`t get the original modem back in.

Can you tell me how to download the drivers so I can re-install the original modem? Also do you know how to de-optimise the modem once it is re-installed?

Any help would be great.

Cheers

I found another case in where 775 can occur with Supanet on a TINY PC. A friend called me in to look at this PC, and when I looked at the supanet connection properties it turned out the dialup number was 0043...... which is Holland or somewhere! So I guess somebody downloaded a naughty dialer which changed the number.

I changed the number back to 0845 122 7777 which is the normal supanet number and all works again. So in a way this block saved my mate some serious money!
