Installing new Hardware in XP Pro - data invalid
I hope someone can help,
I have recently bought a second hand machine running XP Pro and trying to install new hardware
a) modem
b) 3d voodoo card
I have the drivers and these are new hardware but installing a message comes up saying there is a data valid error (code 28 ) It reconises that there is a Voodoo card and modem
Can any one help I have tried searching Forums and boards people have this problem and they claim changing the permissions in regedit for the VGA to allow full access solves the problem but not for me.
Regards
Hans Ram

RE: Installing new Hardware in XP Pro - data invalid
I had a similar problem recently with Win2K, with it not seeing my DVD ROM & Writer, luckily data was stored on another partion & copied the outlook settings across as well & I make images of system & data partitions to another drive on a reg basis.
I wiped it & started afresh, then restored the Outlook file.

Thanks for that but I am unable to format the harddrive as I do not have the XP Pro disks they were not provided with the machine.

Hmmm interesting point, does it have a MS XP licence number sticker attached to it anywhere?

But still having problwms with the mdem just don`t want to logon to the internet talked to Freeserve my ISP who said after checks claim its a problem with the modem talked to the moem people "Trust" who said its the latest driver and said its a ISP problem.
