got tohttp://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php and download their free and excellent virus checker, called AVG.

I use Mcafee but keep hearing and seeing the name AVG mentioned everywhere as the one to use if not wanting to pay for one.

Hope this helps

download the stinger from mcfree, its just a removal tool only will remove all the latest/know virus`s, free, no need to have virus software installed, but in the long run you should get your defs re-subscribed to or another application installed.

go for avg free edition, i rate it above norton/sophos/mcaffe/kaspersky/pccilin etc (and i have either tried or have friends/family that heve used the other progs) and do double checks with http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
AND http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

also which firewall are you using ? i use www.zonelabs.com free edition, tho this does not suite everyone, also consider an anti spyware prog like addaware or spybot (i use both) again these are free to download and maintain
