Pioneer A06 (aka 106D)

Miles (Elite Donator) posted this on Thursday, 30th October 2003, 21:02

Hi all

Just a little thread to share some info in case someone`s not aware

I`ve just flashed my Pioneer 106D DVD-Writer drive so that its now on firmware 1.07 and is RPC-I (IE region free)

Worked like a dream! - files can be downloaded from -> pioneerdvd.rpc1.org
(Look for the Pioneer "DVR-106 v1.07 RPC-1 + 2xDVD-R + 12xRip" )

Hope that helps
Miles

No worries.

I`ll be interested to know how fast you`re burning at when you`ve got it.
As I`ve tried 2 different types of supposedly 4x DVD-R media, and I only get 2x writing
I`m sure this is supposed to be a 4x drive

Could be your new firmware has changed the write speed - you do state look for "DVR-106 v1.07 RPC-1 + 2xDVD-R + 12xRip". I notice the 2xDVD-R part :)

Mine is unflashed and writes at 4x (using Datawrite yellow tops at the moment). I have an RPC-1 Smasung DVD ROM drive that I use for ripping, so by the time it gets to burning on the Pioneer the movie is region free anyway - no need to flash the DVD Writer.

I did notice the "2xDVD-R" bit, but it seemed to be related to the fact that the new firmware would burn 2x on some 1x media (apparently!)

However, I have the Datawrite yellow tops as well, and they burned at 1x before the firmware update!

(Also have a spare DVD-ROM drive - but it wouldn`t read the disc I was trying to...err..backup ;) )

What version firmware does yours have at the mo?

I`m on 1.05

I get the option to burn at 4x on the Datawrites (yellow top 4x DVD-R disks) in Nero 6.0.1.9. I could also burn at that with Nero 5.5.

I`m glad it`s not just me then!

I bought them with the drive from Novatech (advertised as 4x DVD-R`s)

I think I`ll stick to some recommended ones next time (Princo`s or something)

Weird!

I bought my drive from Novatech. Got the media from Ebuyer. I was under the impression that the Datawrites used Princo dye anyways! I may be wrong :D

For every person you can find that swears by Princo, you can find another that swear by Ritek. Keep trying brands until you get ones you`re happy wiht.

I have got the 106 on version 1.05 and as yet have only used the bulkpaq orange discs burned with clone dvd and allthough it does not tell you the burn speed they must have burned at 4 x as it takes 15 minutes to do a full disc .
