philbw (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 4th June 2002, 14:05

Anyone used/got a DVD-R compatible DVD player?? I have a portable DVD player that`ll play `em but it starts to skip from chapter to chapter after about an hour - just seen the Panasonic DVD XV10EBS in a local shop and it states its DVD-R compatible... are these any good?

Anyone recommend and DVD-R compatible players???????????

In theory, most players should be DVD-R compatible as it`s supposedly a universal format. In truth, sadly, this isn`t always the case. It`s a bit hit or miss as to which players can and can`t handle it, and can even boil down to how discs are authored, and what make the media used is.

The new Panny is a lovely player to look at, but if you want multi-regional capability, as with every Panny released so far, you`ll have to fork out some wonga on an internal modification :-(

The Toshiba SD220, Pioneer 444 and 545 ( DVD-RW aswell ) are the only ones that spring to mind
