VCD players?

the-tatester (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 22nd May 2002, 15:12

I would like to know if it`s possible to buy a stand-alone VCD player in the UK that will play CD-R/CD-RW PAL and NTSC VCDs and also where it is possible to buy it?

Thanks!

Why not just buy a multiregional DVD player ???

99% of DVD players play VCD`s, CD`s, CDR`s & CDRW`s

80% of DVD players will also play back NTSC in colour as long as you know how to set the machine up properly

Yes you can buy a VCD player, cos I got one myself.
Got mine from Special Reserve. They don`t sell the one I got now, but found somewhere that does
.http://www.first2view.co.uk/DAV_311_MP3_Discman.htm
It`s £75.
It`s a cd/mp3/vcd/cdr/ player.
Got one for when I`m on holidays, as I could not bring myself to spend so much cash on a portable DVD player for the amount of use it would get. (Also it leaves me more money to spend on beer & DVD's!)
The MP3 bit is not that great, it does not always recognise all the tracks you have burned onto a disc.
Or maybe that's just me.
Still, it`s not a bad VCD & CD player
Do a search for a cheaper price before you buy it from this site cos I paid less then they want.

Copied the following from first2view`s site-

"Play Video CDs, MP3 and Audio CDs through your TV & Hi-fi

Hope this helps

Just noticed, they also sell a gizmo to fit onto a playstation so it will play VCD`s.

I got this earlier this week for £64 from Dale Computer Services.

Nice bit of kit : haven`t tried the VCD part of it yet, but the MP3 playback is good, and the thing takes a damned good shaking without skipping
