Page 1 of DVD/Video transmitter

Has anyone tried or got a DVD/Video transmitter that allows them to broadcast output from their PC to their main TV? I have seen one called "DVD Anywhere" from x10 products... It seems to come with a remote mouse aswell.
This seems to be the answer to my Divx dreams, but do they work very well?

Hope someone can enlighten me.

Thx Mikey, I would also like info about how well these products work... especially the remote mouse.

I got a similar thing the other week from Maplins, a GigaAir 2020 video sender. It sends whatever its connected to, TV, Video, DVD, cable etc to the reciever by radio link, and also allows you to work the remote from the other room back through the link and a magic eye near the remote sensor on the DVD etc.

I had high hopes for it, but it didn`t work at all, wouldn`t send anything, and the remote function was hit and miss, only working about once every 10 goes or so. I got it to work with the cable box, cos NTL had increased the charge for the second box to extorionate amounts, so I got it taken out. So I took it back, they were good, and said you had 14 days to return things if they were no good. I dunno if I had a faulty one, or they are all like that to get working, but it was too far to keep going back if they don`t work.

I think I`m just going to run an extension up the front wall of the house to the bedroom like the aerial lead is. With a splitter off the downstairs TV. I did this upstairs in the kids room from ours and it worked fine.

If anyone else has experience of these systems, it would be great to hear them...

I bought one of the GigaAir 2020 systems from Maplins to send my digital tv signal to the bedroom as I get crap analogue reception in there. It works very well for me but I also had the same infra red remote problem with my Nokia digibox. For some reason it won`t work with a lot of digi and cable box remotes (this is known to Maplins and they should tell you about it), although the VCR and DVD player remotes are fine. I can control either quite happily from the bedroom - quite spooky the first time you do it ! Picture and sound quality is very good considering it`s a composite signal. I get little, if any interference, and that`s going through 2 walls. Sound is clear and in stereo. Apparently microwave ovens can cause a bit of havoc with them though so don`t put one in the line of sight.
I think it cost me £70 if I remember correctly (might have been £80 but no more than that).

I really like the idea of being able to use the remote MOUSE control.

The GigaAir was on special when i got it just over a week ago, it was reduced from £80 to £50. My post wasn`t a recomendation by the way, it didn`t work, but it seems to work ok for Doug, so maybe I got a bad one.

I just looked on the web site and it`s back up to £80, and showing as out of stock. They`ve updated the description too, to say it may not work with some digital receivers. I still have one of the early video senders from years ago, the one`s that sent the signal over a wide area, I might dig that out and see what it`s like nowadays :-)

I had a look at the link - it looks like a very similar device to my GigaAir but with a universal remote amd the Boom 2000 software as part of the package. I`m not sure how the software would work - I guess there will be some connection between the PC and the receiver box so that when you point the remote at the sender and use the track skip buttons for example, the signal is converted and read by the software, and changes the track on the PC CD Player.
I don`t quite see what you mean by the mouse control - I don`t think you actually get remote mouse control with the universal remote from what I can read on the website, it only seems to offer control of the basic DVD-ROM drive functions.

Bought one from PC World for about £40. Worked a treat, but picture quality is entirely dependent on the graphics card in your pc, which, on mine was absolutely average! To replace that as well was not worth it so I just bought a multi region dvd player instead. I still have the transmitter if anyone`s interested, but it`s buried in the loft somewhere so may take me quite some time to find it!
