Page 1 of Encore DV450 hack?
Hardware Forum
Hi, I just got a DV450, and was wondering if there is a multiregion hack for it? Thanks in advance Graham
Here ya go, mucker :
(1) Turn the player ON
(2) Hit `STOP` on the remote
(3) Hit `SETUP` on the remote
(4) Tap in 3,8,8,8,3 on the remote
(5) Hullo, what`s this - LOOPHOLES MENU (you shouldn`t be here!!!).
(6) Use the cursor keys to select your region - to avoid RCE problems it is better to select the region as and when you need to, rather than opting for BYPASS
(7) Hit `SETUP` again on the remote
Thanks a lot clayts :) Now all I need to do is gett the fabled 3. whatever firmware gubbins and I`m laughing.. 160 quid with staff discount was that a bargain??
I reckon £160 is a good deal - Encore flog it at £200 at present (or £299 and they throw in a free Sega Dreamcast - or is it the other way round?)
The fabled 3.3 firmware has, unfortunately, vanished off http://www.dvdschmiede.de `s website (as has the English excursion on the version). This upgrade alleviates R1 lip-sync problems. Me mate Bedlam will verify this works !!!
However, I have a sneaking suspicion that the latest batch may have been upgraded anyway - check with Encore Direct (there was a long pause in October whilst they awaited stocks from Korea, or where-ever, supposedly to meet the demands following the rave reviews and the Sega promotion - ample time to do the upgrade)
cheers mate, You don`t get any funny questions from encore along the lines of "why do you want to know this? etc. (I`m not sure on the legal aspects of removing macrovision and playing region one discs..
No, they know the score. They don`t advertise the multi-region hack but it is very loose information (i.e. where did it come from, just after release ? The hack is just so unlike the other cross-breed hacks such as the 0,1,2,3 jobby - can`t have been luck!!!)
Me dad e-mailed them for me before I became self-sufficient in the PC department re-Macrovision and they said `ring us up and we`ll tell you about it, but we won`t e-mail it!`
Whether the success in recent magazines (i.e. Best Buy tags etc) has changed them I really hope not. I bought it virtually on release and have had good support from them since.
I`ve just got an Encore DV450 and I`m not sure what to do about these firmware updates. I can only find 2.0a from the German site and I`m not sure if I`m going to lose any functionality.
Also is it the 3.3 update that fixes the R1 lip-sync and 2.0a the macrovision disable? If so do you load 2.0a then 3.3?
I`ve heard of EncoreDirect upgrading firmware for £26, does this do both or is it completely seperate.
I don`t want to bugger my machine up, but would prefer to burn an update rather than sent my machine away.
This is exactly what I have just been talking to Encores Technical support about !
They are not going to include the Macrovision disable feature in any future firmware versions and all recent units have shipped with the 3.3 firmware, so I want to load the 2.0 version like you, but am concerned that I may lose functionality by doing so.
The question is, if you downgrade to 2.0, disable Macrovision then reload the 3.3, will macrovision remain disabled ?
" if you downgrade to 2.0, disable Macrovision then reload the 3.3, will macrovision remain disabled ? "
The simple answer to that is yes.
Certainly wouldn`t just do the 2.0 on it`s own though, as it`s a backward flash - my picture went awful, and didn`t clear until I did the 3.3 update. But yes, it remembers the macro is disabled, even tho` there`s no mention of it on the loopholes menu - taped The Exorcist for `myself` the other day...no probs at all.
Thanks to my mate Bedlam I actually have the 3.3 CD but there`s a bit of a queue forming. If you`re interested I can send both 2.0 and 3.3 to you once I get them back from a geezer called Jim.
I`ll happily burn the updates for people. I`ve done the 2.0 one for myself, but don`t want to use it untill I have the 3.3 as well, as I`ve just got my encore, so I assume that it has the lyp sync sorted. Clayts, can you email it to me as a zip file, and then I can burn it? (assuming that you have it as a file on your PC)
