Will this effect my picture quality, the Home cinema package I am thinking about getting only has a S-Video out lead & my old Sony TV only has a scart input.
So I am going to purchase a S-Video to Scart lead to get round this.
Any thoughts???
Careful! Make sure the Sony TV can accept a S-Video input via the SCART socket (it will say so in the instructions if it can). Otherwise you`ll only get a black-and-white picture with a S-Video DIN to SCART lead.

Profigold PGV632 from somewhere like http://www.superfi.co.uk should do the trick for about £30. This also has audio L and R, as S-Video is picture only.
Make sure you get one that goes the right direction (ie FROM S-Video to SCART not vice versa).
I`ve got one knocking around the back of my set-up somewhere from when I was experimenting with US firmware on my UK player : it worked like a charm :-)

How cheap is this setup you`re after? To be honest, I`d avoid any DVD kit that penny-pinched a SCART output, let alone an RGB-compatible SCART one
How old is the SCART telly? My ol`man`s Sony set is 7 years old yet it still has RGB, S-Video & Composite input via the SCARTs
There are plenty of models to choose from. Read a review or two and decide against the units that do not have RGB SCART
that`s my tuppence anyway
What `Kit` are you thinking of buying.
I bet he`s a Sony freak! :-)
He`s probably looking at one of the Sony DAV-Sxxx packages, they dont have scart outputs.
Im getting the Pioneer DCS-100.
