big_boy (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 7th April 2002, 00:28

Hi just had my sony dvd player chipped from techtronics, and was wondering will it now play VCD`S. And copied cd`s??
I have a cd-writer, and use cable to download movies of Kazza, if I burn one of these movies lets says Resident Evil onto a Recordable CD will it play in my machine?? or do you have to buy special cd`s??

cheers

why don`t you just try it and seem we can`t tell you as most of us don`t have your player.

Welcome to the Forums, bigboy.

As Raymond says, we need to know the model number : it`s better to have a more descriptive subject title :

eg Does chipped Sony NSPDVXXX play CD-R ? or similar.

You`re also better off posting this in the Hardware Forum, so I`ve moved it over and edited the title for you.

I can`t comment on that specific model, but generally speaking if the player didn`t play CD-Rs before it was chipped, it won`t play them now.

With DVD players, lack of CD-R playback is a technical limitation of the player`s laser unit, it`s not a "protection" issue that would be got around with a chip.
