Pioneer - NTSC Playback on PAL 60 TV

Hyper (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 30th March 2002, 10:34

I had a Toshiba 100E which played NTSC films on a PAL 60 TV, but not on a PAL 50 TV.

My player was stolen, so I replaced it with a Pioneer 444 which also advises that it plays NTSC discs on a PAL 60 TV. Unfortunately, I`m still getting a black and white picture on my PAL 60 TV which worked with my Toshiba.

Other than buying a new NTSC TV, could anyone please advise if there is something I should be doing ?

The manual mentions how to set the output type. From what I remember, hold down the FF key at power on, which should toggle the display to PAL.

I think it defaults to Auto, which is NTSC output for an NTSC disk, and PAL for a PAL disk. You`re seeing B/W because your TV can`t display NTSC pictures. You probably need PAL/60.

If you switch it to PAL, you should get PAL/60 for an NTSC disk, and PAL/50 for a PAL disk.

Hope it helps

Hi,

I noticed the same thing on my player, if you have more than one scart connector on your TV then try using the other one. Worked for me. (one socket is rgb the other isn`t on my tv)
