Aiwa 370 - got one - it`s the dog`s doodahs! (Thanks Jimbo!!)

I`ve been looking for a DVD player to upgrade my aging Panny A110 for a while. I wanted a multi-region player with DVD/VCD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3 support. So far it had been a close thing between the LG 3350 and Wharfedale 750s. However, earlier today I read Jimbo`s description of the Aiwa 370 and thought that it sounded just the ticket.

So I hot footed it down to Comets (Farnborough Gate) with an MP3 CD, Audio CD-RW, and Region 1 DVD. I quickly tried the multi-region hack from the handset and it worked fine. Sure enough all the media worked without a hitch, and the mp3 GUI is very nice (same as the LG 3350).

It wasn`t until I got it home that I thought to try a VCD, but it worked anyway :-)

So far the picture and sound quality are every bit as good as my Panny, if not better. Even the audio quality on MP3s and audio CDs is excellent.
Of course I realise you can get them cheaper on the net but I couldn`t wait that long :-)

All in all I would definitely recommend the player.
Thanks for the heads-up Jimbo!!

Cheers
Jezebabe

P.S. I think people are making too much of the load delay - I really don`t think it`s so bad.

Jezebabe..before you go too nuts..

Have you got the R1 Three Kings?
Does it play OK?
does it seem to pause for chapter/layer changes?
Do I have a faulty player?

Farnborough Gate? Do ya know my sister??!?!? ROFL
(Farnborough`s so small everyone knows each other!)

AIWA 370 ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, must calm down ....

Anyway, sorry I havent got region 1 Three Kings.

Just a thought - have you tried changing it to region 1 only via the same handset hack? Don`t know, maybe worth a try?

Cheers
Jeremy
P.S. What does your sister look like? ROFL!!

`Course I tried "hard hacking" it!! Was the first thing I did when it jumped!!

And she`s about 5` 7" and got a bit of a scottish twang in her voice....but then, that`s nearly EVERY female in Farnbourough, innit? lol

Why is there no mention of Mp3 playback on the Comet site?

Where else can it be bought from? Any cheaper?

Dunno why Comet`s site doesn`t mention MP3 but I`ll mention it to a friend tomorrow at work, and I`m sure he`ll inform his head office!

But cheaper? I believe it can be found on the net cheaper, but £200?
With a region hack?
What more do ya want???

(By the way Jeremy...I know an LG rep and apparently snipping a pin on the 3350 disables macro..I`ll find out in approximately 4 weeks! :)
)

The player actually has an "MP3" logo on the front of it, so I don`t know why Comet don`t advertise the fact. The sales guys in the Farnborough store seemed very interested in the multi-region hack, especially when it worked!! They made a note of it so they could tell future customers. Thinking about it afterwards, I should have claimed commission (and shared it with Jimbo) ;-)

BTW http://www.hed.co.uk are selling it already hacked for £169.99 but I couldn`t wait so I got it from Comet.

Interesting about the macro disable Jimbo, I await with interest.

AIWA 370 ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

For those who have not dealt with Home Electrical Direct before.

They are a GREAT company! Unlike Scan/Unbeatable.

I only wish I`d waited. Can Macrovision be disabled???

Mico Rocks!!! But I`d much prefer this Aiwa!

The LG 3350 can be disabled by cutting a pin Carrot, but when I see the LG rep again, I`ll get the details and post after I check the aiwa`s board out.

This sounds interesting Jimbo, I will look forward to your post. Any chance of asking the LG rep about VCD now that the Aiwa has it?
