Pacific 750 pauses repeatedly during playback, help needed

Simon Gillow (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 10th March 2002, 22:43

My new Pacfic 750 from ASDA pauses when playing DVDs. It normally occurs about an hour into a film and once it starts happening it pause for a couple of seconds and then starts again and it does this every few seconds. Is this due to a dirty laser, a scratched DVD or is it a fault with the player?

I am a DVD newbie and only have 2 DVDs to test it with but it happens on both.

Cheers,

Simon

I am a newbie as well but as I understand it if a DVD is duel layer which I guess is most of them there will be a slight pause as it reads the layers. Some DVDs warn you of this on the back cover [check small print] I would guess the more expensive models have a way around this. In any cause mine is the same so you are not alone :-)

But does yours pause more than once per movie? Mine does! It does it every minute or so, surely its more than it being dual layer?

sorry, my fault, didn`t read your post properly. No it only pauses once in a while, maybe 3-4 times at most in a whole movie. Try contacting Schneider who make the player and see what they say at ofni[at]moc.kuredienhcs

NO! NO!...You got a faulty player take it back to ASDA then get your money back or a replacment, your contract is with ASDA not Schneider !

I find it sad that the British public are so ill informed about their rights.

So is it likely that another Pacific 750 would not have this problem? Or am I best off getting my money back and buying a different model?

Cheers

If it was me I would try a replacment and if that fails then get your money back and buy one of the following Tosh, Sony, Pioneer...ect.

Thanks for your comment, I will do as you suggest and get another 750 and give that a try.

I exchanged my 750 for another one at ASDA and at first it seemed better but now about 1 hr 15 mins into a movie it starts freezing again. Is this a problem with my DVD media being scratched or is it a common problem of the 750?
What do you think I should do? Should I get my money back and go for another model at ASDA or should I get a Mico Classic from Sainsburys?

BUY A MICO, £89-00 at Sainsburys bigger stores, it is the only player that plays everything with no problem. If you want to pay more & ONLY play DVDs then the Toshiba SD210E is your best buy Or Pioneer 444. I still prefer the Mico having had all three.
