New to DVD, Sony or Pioneer ? What to Buy?

Timc (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 14th November 2000, 23:47

Any advice or opinions welcome.

Having spent some time reviewing numerous makes and models and having narrowed the selection down to either a Sony DVPS725 or the Pioneer DV-636D, both appear to offer similar functionallty and performance, both having built in decoders etc.

However I am led to believe that the Sony is unable to read CD-R`s, is this correct, if so is there any way around this, whereas the Pioneer appears to read all formats including CD-R and CD-RW.

My perfered choice is the Sony, does anyone have any advice or opinions on either unit ?

Thanks

My personal choice is Pioneer and we rarly (if ever) hear of any problems with thier machines here - the only downside being that they are not multiregion unless you get it hardware hacked - apart from that I think the only other problem I`ve heard is that some people think the buttons ont he remote are too small - not got a problem personally but it`s personal taste.

I`ve had my Pioneer 515 for ages now and it`s NEVER refused a disk or done anything wrong.

obviously this is a free speech forum so lets go !!
