There are two considerations: DVD region and BD region. A lot of BD players can be purchased multi-region for DVD, or made multi-region via an easy hack. However, not that many can be made multi-region for BD. It`s generally only Chinese models and their clones that can be hacked with the handset. The only other option is a hardware modified player from a company like Multi-Region Magic.
Regional coding on BD is currently not as restrictive as DVD, so you shouldn`t run into as many problems with DVD.
