Old VCD`s on Pacific DVD Players

Hi,
Have had the oppertunity to try my older VCD,s on these players.
These are from the Philips CDi days. (mpeg 1)
Most are movies, a few music videos.

Half load and automatically start to play.
The other mostly stay at the `loading` stage.
1or 2 only load, and display, displays the zero starting possition but does not start to play, have press play to no effect.
Anyway I can kick start, and also get loading to complete?

No difference in results between 750 or 1000 models.

you should be able to copy the Mpeg file off the disc and re-burn as a standard VCD.

Is there a folder labled Mpegav with a big dat file in?

Some older Philips so-called "Video CDs" are actually in the proprietary CD-i format, rather than proper VCD format. This was a cynical ploy by Philips to keep certain movies "CD-i exclusive".

Look at the disc packaging and label - if it says "CD-i" rather than "Video CD", then it won`t play on any DVD player or standard VCD player. (You should be able to play it on a PC though.)

Yes the 2 piles are like that.
The ones that play are marked Video CD
The ones that do not DigitalVideo on CD-i

The one exception is Four Weddings and a Funeral marked as Video CD, this loads and display comes on at zero on the counter but does not start playing.

Pressing play as no effect, after a while chapter 1 turns to a number like 255.

I will therefore assume a faulty disc, unless you know a way to start it.

Trust Philips to do something different, as your last sentence.
I still have the Cdi machine use it for audio CD`s, but was going to uppug it now I have the DVD player.
Thanks.
