DTS - Dolby Digital, Wharfdale 750

Sharc (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 9th November 2000, 09:51

Could someone please clear this up for me. I own a Wharfdale 750, purchased in early summer this year. The player has a Dolby Digitial Logo (Not a logo saying DTS) and a LED underneath it. Is my player DTS capable or not ? All reviews I have read say it needs a DTS logo is this a Dolby Digital logo or not ?

Any Help, Muchly Appreciated ?

Sharc, even tho` it doesn`t mention it, the Wharfey 750 is capable of DTS output, but you`ll need an amp to hear it.

My player, the ubiquitous Encore 450, also does DTS but fails to boast about it on the facia.

Odd that, isn`t it ?

Isnt it because the company has to pay a licence fee or something to be certified to display that little logo?

Cheers,

Steve

It doesn`t have a a DTS symbol boasted, because when Wharfedale made it, there were no DTS Region 2 discs available and they thought but didn`t know exactly if the 750 would only be available to a British market. So while they still designed the system to output to DTS, they saw no point in advertising this fact, when British users couldn`t use it anyway...until now.
