Aiwa - HT-DV90 - Surround sound from TV/Video/sat

Ashley Ferguson (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 21st January 2002, 23:02

my set up - sony kv-32fx65, 3 scarts, Panasonic ITV digibox, and sony stereo video. Sat to TV scart/scart AV1, TV to DVD scart/svideo AV2, TV to Video Scart/scart AV3, Sat to video scart/scart.
in dvd mode sound is excellent however I get sparkle on high contrast images and can not control by TV settings. Other playback from TV/SAT/video does not seperate to rear speakers i.e mono only and reduced volume as compared to DVD mode.

Any Ideas, thoughts please, am I expecting to much?

As far as the picture goes you could try the DVD in AV1. This is usually the RGB socket and I always find it gives a much better picture expecially in dark scenes. You will probably then find that SKy exibits the same problem though. Not sure about the sound problems. Have you tried to switch the scart leads to see if the sound changes when using the DVD scart? if so then a couple of good quality scarts should solve any problems. Try www.beyondhifi.com for leads.

Hope this has helped a bit

An amendment - the itv digi box is a pioneer not that it should matter but,
I forgot to mention the surround system has no scarts, therefore left and right audio out from tv to surround `in` is only way to get audio to surround system, however on adding another left and right audio from digibox has resulted in much louder output but still mono to rear speakers. Manual states this should be so for analogue input but surely stereo to rear speakers must be possible from itvdigital?
Also added a composite video cable parallel with s-video in and sparkle has disappeared.
