DANSAI 852 DVD Player - Can picture / sound be adjusted?

Digiteer (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 20th January 2002, 01:51

Hi, thanks to the kind members of this forum, I purchased a dansai and it is indeed very compatible, versitile and seems an ideal first player.

1. The difference between RGB and Compsite Video is VERY noticible. The Composite is very warm or `over-orange`, maybe more obvious as RGB is cool or blue?
- I don`t want to adjust the TV`s settings as they are just right for its tuner and my Thomson VCR, so can any changes be made to the Dansai`s output?

2. Can any mods be made to the sound output other than Volume (eg the 3D effects some similar players have?)

3. The TV is an oldish 32" Sony 4:3 Trinitron, but it does have an RGB SCART. On the Dansai, I`ve set TV type to PAL & Normal/PS, but all the DVD movies I`ve tried play at Letterbox rather than FullScreen! Special features etc., do play at Full Screen however.
- Is there some other setting you`ve got to make to get movies to play Full Screen?

4. Does any one have any other tips or tricks for the Dansai / Entry Level players?

Thanks for reading these Newbie questions - all advice gratefully received.

Regards
Malc

If you connect the player to the RGB scart socket on your tv the colour is set automatically to the correct tones as long as your player is putting out RGB.
The reason you get letterbox is because the films are in widescreen which is the correct way to view these films, believe me it seriously takes away from the film to have the sides chopped of for pan and scan(full picture)!!
You can`t get mods to change to 3D sound although if you want good sound think about buying a dolby digital set up such as Digitheatre which can be bought for as little as £200.00 from currys!!
Hope this helps!!

Hi on the set up on dvd on tv ratio set it to widescreen 16/9 and it won`t sqeeze the image down. I personally prefer it like this a little stretched and full screen.
16/9 anamrhics will fill full screen 235 anamorphics will at least cover a bit more. Let us know how you get on, Best Mark.

Generally the point of getting a dvd player is so that you can see films the way the director intended i.e. best possible picture and ratio, so unless you watch it in widescreen with the borders you`re not watching the film the way you were meant to see it!!
I would have thought that with a 32" tv albeit a 4:3 set you would still have a large picture!

We have a 32" widescreen but I still user one it with anamorphic 235 to stretch to full screen as I really don`t like the black bands and would always choose full screen albeit a fiddled with image.
Some folks only have say a 20inch TV or even smaller and you need to get all the picture area you can get.
So set to 16/9 its bobs your uncle for more. But its all down to personal preference really. Best Mark.
