SHARP 28" WIDESCREEN

porl (Competent) posted this on Friday, 11th January 2002, 17:15

Just took my Wharfedale back to tesco (actually had it 1 year on Standby most of time - fab picture) and got a Sharp second hand. The picture is really bright with red + white "halo" round a lot of the images.
Can anyone give me some pointers for optimum picture settings? Ive scrolled through the options, but none seem as good as the factory setting on the Wharfedale!!

Turn the contrast down should cure the red " halo" around images if it has a sharpness control tun it down if the pic improves by adjusting the contrast the c.r.t has had it, brightness and colour should be set about the same , red ringing around images is a classic sign of tube failure what was wrong with the wharfedale?, some of them have Panasonic tubes

I will give this a try.
I took the Wharfedale back cos I only just heard about the recall notice. SOme of the sets were apparently overheating badly. Tesco gave me back £300 no problems, and I saw the Sharp in a recon shop for that price. Theres a 12 month warranty though so I guess I can take it back no problems

Not all the Wharfdale,s req modifying it depends on which tube is fitted a panasonic req mod , Lg no mod req or Thomson no mod req, the problem is a small coil can overheat and I think they did have one catch fire the mod involves removing the coil and fitting a link

I tried jigging the settings. A little improvement and got rid of most of the halo, but picture looks a little gloomy. There`s a bit of a "warm up" time too when switching on, and a bit of pull inwards at the top of the frame in 4:3 mode.
Maybe better to take it back and see what else theyve got.

Def sounds like the tube knackered especially if there is a long warm up time , sounds like poss you have another fault on its way, when you have a look at another check the colour , brightness contrast and make sure their not all whacked right up turn up the contrast and check for red outlines around verticals
